Roger Federer’s Outfit for Indian Wells 2013

Hey all, it’s just over a month away but I thought I’d post some pictures of Roger Federer’s outfit for Indian Wells. Gotta say this is my favourite colour combination of the year to date.

I wasn’t a fan of the Pink used in Australia and even though this is effectively the same polo it’s a way better colour. Even the zip collar looks better as it doesn’t stand out as much.

It’s described by Nike as Deep Royal Blue with white and obviously a touch of orange. Almost looks a touch purple in the pictures but I’ll take their word for it.

As usual it comes with the RF detailing on the sleeve, has a seamless design on the sleeves and also comes with some laser cut perforations, I guess they aid ventilation if you want to get technical but just a design feature more than anything.

The trainers are a winner for me too, pink shoelaces was a big no no last time but the orange and white work very well this time I think.

Let me know what you think of the outfit in the comments below, is it an improvement on the pink?

About Jonathan

Huge fan of Roger Federer - I'll pretty much try and watch all his matches from Grand Slam level right down to ATP 250. When I'm not watching or tweeting about tennis I play regularly myself and use this blog to share my thoughts on Fed and tennis in general.

  1. The blue? Yes :) I think it’s a perfect shade of blue for him. Although I must say (admit?) that I had no objections to the pink. I actually think it gave us a few brilliant interview moments too ;) Like this blue more than the Rotterdam outfit. But most importantly, I hope he’ll be doing well there too. First up: Rotterdam!

    • You’re a girl, so I can let you off appreciating the pink! It was too overpowering I though. The forehand gotta be the loudest thing on court :P

There’s an Orange polo too that’s been released, maybe Katyani was right, he will be going all Dutch!

      • Haha, yes, the girl thing def makes a difference… ;) Do agree about the forehand though, serve is good second if it comes to being the loudest thing… In the end, clothes don’t really matter, but Fed and fashion just go really well together, so… ;)

Haven’t seen the orange polo yet! And yes, maybe he is going all Dutch. We’ll have to wait and see… It’ll make even more newspapers then if he does… Media is already starting to cover everything involving the tournament, esp since it’s the 40th anniversary…

      • Hey,

There is a pic of the Orange one on my Rotterdam outfit post. It’s not bad…

Cool on the media front, should be a good atmosphere then!

      • Hi Jonathan, thanks for mentioning me. As you can see, I am over the initial shock of Roger losing AO. I haven’t posted a comment since then. Was too disappointed. Not at Roger, because he was amazing and came that far against all odds, but disappointed because Roger really deserved to win. Anyways, that is in the past right now.

I am very looking forward to Rotterdam. And Roger in orange…………….. O my God, we will all go crazy, more than before for Roger. We will adopt him and keep him forever !!!

I am going to tart faith and I am busy getting a ticket for the final. That is how much I believe he will make it to the final !!! It will be so nice and such an honor to see Roger in person.

Greetings from a very disappointed for Roger for AO and very excited for Roger for Rotterdam, Katyani

Ps: Roger, welcome to my country !!! Love you always no matter what.

      • Hey Katyani,

Yeah I wondered where you had got to!

I’m looking forward to Rotterdam too. Should be a good one.

I think he will wear blue, but there is the Orange outfit in waiting… I figure maybe it was for Miami but he’s skipping it so he might wear it!

        Cheers,

        Jonathan

Actually Jonathan, the reason there’s an orange polo is because Roger plans on wearing it in case Katyani decides to watch him live :)

There is something about the hint of orange I love. Anyone remember Roger’s French Open 2009 outfit? That orange strip on the inside collar? It is sick!

Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find it. I have the Hamburg version without the orange though :)

I certainly would love for orange to be Roger’s theme on 2013.

  2. I love it. The blue and orange always looks sharp. Kinda reminds me of Miami 2010.

  3. Blue & orange looks amazing!! It’s classy, which is perfect for Roger, but at the same time the orange gives the outfit a fresh style. Also the vapors looks better than the pink ones. I mean, the pink ones were good but this ones combine more with Roger, I think.

    Good post!!

P.S.: sorry if I have mistakes, my english it’s not the best

  4. Nike is being a bit playful with the color combinations of his outfit. :D Still better than the pink and grey polo and his pink trainers. LOL

  5. Sid TheCookieThief

    Definitely buying the polo :-)

  6. Initially I did not like the pink outfit he was sporting at AO but I warmed up to it little by little as the tournament went on. I really like this outfit though. When I saw it on Tennis Warehouse’s site, I had a smile on my face. I love the mix of the deep blue with the orange. I also like that it is a white shoe with orange in it and not a navy shoe for instance. Nike gets two thumbs up from me :)

  7. Awesome combo Fed! Everyone is going green for Indian wells so this will be unique. Loving the shoes, fits perfectly. Then again, Fed is pretty much perfect so it makes sense. Murray will probably still look bad, Adidas will never make a decent kit for that guy.

Looking forward to Rotterdam like everyone else.

BTW I know this is totally irrelevant but did you guys hear about Janowicz’s comments on Fed, Nadal and Djokovic. He needs to keep his mouth shut. He said this about them: http://twitpic.com/c175ub

I don’t know if it’s surprising that he thinks Nadal is the most humble out of them, he is so media trained that he comes off that way but it was very disheartening to say that Federer sits back and does nothing about the prize money issues going on. Roger is the head of the players council and sits down with the tournament organisers and gets crap done while Nadal and Djokovic just tell the press conference stuff needs to be done without actually doing anything about it and criticise Fed for the lack of action (Nadal at Australian Open in 2012). I will never get some people truth be told. Janowicz talks about things irrelevant to tennis, and is definitley someone who needs to tone down the attention seeking status after only a month into the year.

One more thing, Murray said he will skip DC in april to focus on French Open, do we think he has a chance?

    • Saw JJ’s comments. What is it with these young boys that they think they can pull these things off? There is something called respect. Even though he might not have said it all literally and something got lost in translation, still… He needs to focus on tennis and makes sure he gets more consistent if he wants to achieve anything more than he did in Paris last year. I actually don’t believe it either, what he says about Fed. Exactly for the reasons you mention and just for the fact that it doesn’t make sense. He is no saint, I know that, but this is so out of character. In fact, I think he did agree with the whole price money issues, I read that somewhere. Anyway. Ridiculous. I agree.

And Murray having a good chance of winning the French Open? Nah… not yet. Finals maybe this year. But I think it’s too early. He has improved a lot and changed his game a bit I think, but that’s about it for now… Next year maybe. But he might surprise me (and a lot of other people). I think Nadal is going to come back really strong, with all our expectations very low, and give everyone there a really hard time. Saw him play yesterday for a bit and he moved well, although still a bit careful at times, was sharp at moments and seems *really* hungry to play (and win). Nothing changed there then ;)

    • Hey Alysha,

Yeah I saw Janowicz comments, perhaps some of it could have been lost in translation so hard to weigh up. He’s entitled to his opinion I guess, see what he produces over the next year then he might be able to justify his talk.

Murray just hates DC I think, skips it at any given opportunity. He is not bad on clay but I can’t see him winning the French. Semi final at best.

      Jonathan

  8. Beautiful. Hope he plays as beautiful. #TeamPeRFect

  9. Swanky shade of blue! Is it sort of indigo blue? Love it with orange. Also I like the white shorts and shoes to go with the strong colour top likes of FO11, AO12 and IW12. They are great for outdoor with the blue sky and sunshine!

So, everyone is going green for IW, hah? Everybody went yellow in AO, didn’t they? Who cares…Roger is always the best dresser anyway even with the pink shoes. It’s not the kit making look good, it’s the person!

  10. Ana Paula Simensato

    Hy Jonathan,
I love the combination between blue and orange especially with white shorts.
And yeah, I need this hat!

  11. Love the new outfit! I will be seeing Roger next month in IW. Been lucky enough to see him a few times over the last few years. Cannot. Wait. As fans, if you never have had the chance to see him play then you must make every effort, he is different from everyone else. IW is an easy to access and casual tournament, lots of fun!

    • Hey Julie,

Sounds good, IW is a good tournament for Roger. Hope he can make the final and try defend his title.

And I agree, watching Fed play live is awesome.

      Jonathan

  12. As usual, Federer’s uniform is classy. I love it!

It’s surely an improvement on the pink, but that isn’t to say the pink was repulsive or anything like that. In fact, I’d have almost loved it if it wasn’t that strong shade of pink (you see, I’m more of a baby pink fan ;) ).

  13. That blue is sweet, love it! Wish Nike had this polo with buttons instead of the zipper, it would have been one of my favourite RF outfits!

  14. thanks Jonathan…. like a true Federer’s fan. ..
ur every post is upto d mark…
like to buy this blue one for sure..

  15. I too am going to IW. Can’t wait. I like the polo for Rotterdam and this one. Good luck to Roger!

  16. Hi Jonathan and Sid,
Roger would wear orange especially for me !!! Wow, you just made my whole year !!!
Do you know that there are no tickets available for the final on Sunday? It is completely sold out and no one has even played yet !!! If Roger comes next year to Rotterdam, I will buy the tickets in november or december !!!
Oh by the way, I love Roger to death, I want to see him play, but I don’t want to meet him !!!
I just know I will trip right in front of his face, I will forget my name or I will embarras myself in another way !!! Don’t want that to happen.

Greetings from Katyani. I will read all the articles in the weekend and THEN I will post my comments which I have been saving up since AO. Don’t want to scare you though !!!

    • Wow, didn’t know it was sold out. I guess with the 40th anniversary it’s going to be mega popular.

Haha you say that but if you got the chance to meet the GOAT how could you pass it up?! Even if all those things happened it would still be worth it.

  17. A bit conservative outfit but it compliments his persona. Classic , flawless, sleek.

Nice to see a guy who is into tennis fashion, btw.

  18. I think everyone aggres that this outfit with colour combo is top! I like this one too. Federers clothing has generally always been good. Thumbs up for this outfit. :)
